"The Hill", 1965 - The main Location of this Sidney Lumet War Movie was a Set built in the Cabo de Gata Desert near Almeria. The Set, a huge "Military Prison Fort", was surrounded by sand with the sun shining merciless.
Inside the Fort they built "the Hill" as a playfield for new prisoners and special guests. Only a few scenes have been shot in the Desert of Tabernas, precisely in the
Rambla de Tabernas. The main Rambla around Tabernas.

A striking Set of great dimensions in the Desert can be a problem for other Movie productions or quite the reverse, it could attract other Movie Productions.
A deserted Movie Set is a cheap location! And thats what happened.
After the first vultures landed without permission they pulled down the entire Set.
In the Movie "Toto d'Arabia" we can see the "Military Prison Fort" in the role of "Shamara", a town in the Desert of Arabia.
